The economy has been on a rollercoaster ride for the last decade.  The enormous debt problems this country faces, depressed housing prices, high unemployment, and market volatility are causing a ripple effect; and we are only beginning to see how it might impact our lives and our children’s lives in the years to come.  This issue gives some insight to our ever changing world including some details from Ohio Senate Bill 5.

Every year during the holidays, I hope this newsletter finds you rejoicing from a happy holiday season. About this time each year I try to look back over the past year and reflect on accomplishments, time I spent with my family and friends, the memories that were created and mistakes that I may have made, so that I can learn from them and not repeat them in the future. At the end of 2009 the laws regarding Transfer On Death (TOD) real estate deeds changed in the State of Ohio. TOD is a way to attach beneficiaries to your real estate who will inherit the property upon your death while allowing the property to avoid probate. The changes in the tax law starting in 2010 and the decline in the value of many IRAs have created an opportunity to convert an IRA to a Roth IRA that may never be better. But, a conversion creates a tax liability that many do not fully understand.
